Norway proceeds with Nordkapp OPV upgrade

Article Abstract:

EDO Combat Systems has won a $25.5-million contract from the Royal Norwegian Navy Materiel Command for the command, control and sensor-systems enhancement of the Norwegian Coast Guard's three Nordkapp class offshore patrol vessels. The contract worth will rise by an additional $6.7 million if the option on a similar equipment shipset is chosen for the new ice-strengthened patrol vessel Svalbard. EDO was picked for the project instead of rival Ericsson. EDO says the coverage of the upgrade includes new surface surveillance radar, helicopter control/identification friend-or-foe (IFF) subsystem and other equipment.

Kuwait awaits its new lightweight contender

Article Abstract:

Kuwait is expected to receive the first of eight new French-built P-37BRL missile-armed fast patrol boats that are to perform coastal defense operations and sea surveillance in the country's exclusive economic zone. The French package is under a government-to-government deal worth $396.2 million that was agreed upon by French defense minister Francois Leotard and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Al Houmoud Al Jaber Al Sabah. The delivery for the patrol boats signals the first stage of a naval re-equipment effort to replace the losses incurred during the Gulf War.
