Operational trends for shipborne optronic devices

Article Abstract:

Optronic sensors, which are now installed at naval ships, provide search and detection of surface and airborne targets aside from their function as directors for fire control systems. Offering a number of significant advantages for anti-missile/anti-aircraft applications, optronic sensors provide the inherent possibility of quickly visually validating the targets prior to opening fire.

Trends and requirements in torpedo development

Article Abstract:

Changes in anti-submarine warfare (ASW) scenario are forcing a rethink in the design of torpedoes. For years, torpedoes have been designed to target deep-sea and double-hulled nuclear submarines. The end of the Cold War, however, has shifted the focus of battle on littoral waters where slow- moving but very silent diesel/electric submarines are the more likely targets.
