UK ponders interim ammunition for Challenger 2 as re-arming schedule slips

Article Abstract:

The necessity for the British Army to have a new generation of 120 mm rifle ammunition has come up because of the delay with the Hybrid version of the Rheinmetall L55 120 mm smoothbore gun as a replacement for the L30A1 high-pressure 120 mm rifled gun currently fitted aboard the Challenger 2 tank. The proposed new rifled ammunition family will maintain the viability of the L30 gun system until the formal decision is reached on the smoothbore upgunning of the British Army's Challenger 2s.
