Hardware considerations for software-defined tactical radios

Article Abstract:

The challenges faced while designing hardwareEs for battery-powered tactical radios, which supports additional frequency range, higher data rates, faster frequency transitions and simultaneous operation of multiple channels, are described. Combining different frequency bands, multi-band hardware, multi-channel considerations, size and power consumptions are some of the main factors to be considered while designing the hardware for the tactical radios.

Software-defined radio comes of age

Article Abstract:

The software-defined radio (SDR) is implemented in software and runs on generic hardware and it also offers improvements in flexibility and upgradability. SDR technology can be used in any device that uses RF for communication, such as cellular base station, military communication systems and public radio safety.
