Pioneering the Trimaran warship

Article Abstract:

The UK will initiate several tests of a new trimaran demonstrator craft designed to validate the feasibility of suing such a hullform for future British military vessels. The vessel is being developed by Vosper Thornycroft, in partnership with GEC Marine, under a $21.30million contract. The vessel, designated RV Triton, will span 97 meters, have a displacement of 1,100 tons and an endurance of 20 days at 12 knots. It is expected to achieve a maximum speed of 20 knots, powered by a single-screw diesel-electric propulsion system.

Buyers' Market All-out war being waged by global industries for asia's shrinking pool of naval contracts

Article Abstract:

International naval shipyards and systems manufacturers are fiercely competing for contracts in Asia that have dwindled to a handful as a result of the region's economic crisis. Russia is trying to entice buyers by lowering its prices and by accepting barter for its naval platforms. Competition has intensified to the point wherein companies are now offering their most advanced products at 'friendship prices' and are enlisting the help of their governments to pressure potential buyers.

Hot warship

Article Abstract:

Spain's procurement of a new F100-class frigate, due to enter service in 2002, is considered to be ironically fit with the nation's political will. The frigate, with its almost 6,000-ton displacement and potential anti- tactical ballistic missile (ATBM) capability, would be the most formidable surface ship in Europe. The ship also combines a US Navy Aegis antiair warfare system, a SPY-1D radar and a Mk 41 vertical launch system.
