RAN loses submarine rescue capability in accident

Article Abstract:

The Royal Australian Navy's (RAN) deep submergence rescue vehicle (DSRV) Remora is presently in 130 m of water off the coast of Western Australia and is awaiting a comprehensive recovery plan. The failures of a winching cable on the submarine escape and rescue system's launch and recovery system caused the mishap when it was on a mission to rescue two civilian contractors stranded underwater.
