Second-hand assets: Popular as a result of shrinking budgets but not only...

Article Abstract:

Countries like the Netherlands and the UK sell or donate used ships and aircraft carriers on acquiring newer and more modern naval vessels to countries like Chile and Taiwan, many of whom are unable to spend on procuring new ships. This results in stronger political ties between the seller or donor and the buyer or recipient, interoperability for the buyer or recipient to have similar training and logistics, and achievement of new operational capabilities as in the case of the enhanced capability of the Singapore Navy through the purchase of Swedish submarines.
