Article Abstract:

Top Air Force officials gathered at the Air Force Association's 2004 Los Angeles National Symposium, which commemorated the Air Force's 50 years of involvement in military space and missile activities, to discuss about the future course of military space. James G. Roche, then Secretary of the Air Force, Gen. Lance W. Lord, commander of Air Force Space Command, and many others have given their opinions about the future of the U.S. military space programs.

The Pentagon is poised to realign the look and locations of its bases abroad as the US military transforms itself from a tank-heavy Cold War bulwark into a flexible and quick-striking force. US is facing a new kind of war that might demand new dispositions and removing most US troops from Germany might call into question American commitment to the alliance.

The Pentagon began consolidating its expansive basing structure around the United States as the Cold War drew to a close in the late 1980s. DOD in 1988, 1991, 1993 and 1995 staged rounds of base realignment and closure (BARC), in defense parlance and helped armed forces avoid billions in infrastructure costs.
