Space, missile defense and information operations

Article Abstract:

The third Army Transformation War Game (ATWG), originally designed by the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), took place in April 2002 at the Army War College and the game's scenario set in the 2019-2020 timeframe took into consideration the aspects of the threat due to space, missile and computer network operations (CNO) technologies and the ability to counter these threats. The assessment of the findings from the ATWG made it clear that the achievement of Transformation goals and realization of the Objective Force characteristics depends largely on space-based capabilities, increased survivability afforded by Integrated Missile Defense (IMD) operations and the effects multiplier attributes of CNO.

Nine questions

Article Abstract:

The task of transformation though innovation and collaboration with a goal of Objective Force, currently undertaken by the Army to meet emerging challenges in the increasingly complex operational environment requires the Army to adapt while preserving those institutions and aspects of culture that make the Army what it is. To understand how the Army will achieve the goal of Objective Force a number of questions have been asked dealing especially with information and information technologies, the answers of which hold the key to understanding how the goal will be achieved given the schedule and resource constraints.
