Strategic fusion: What India wants

Article Abstract:

The 'nuclear deal' signed by India and the US in July 2005 involves the lifting of sanctions by the President George Bush's administration on dual-use and military sales, permission of security cooperation with India, and reversals of a host of policies imposed in the wake of India's 1998 nuclear tests. The Bush administration is hoping that US-Indian military cooperation would help both countries' armed services become core constituencies for a larger strategic relationship.

Strategic fusion: Negative reaction

Article Abstract:

The 'nuclear deal' signed by India and US cannot be expected to immediately benefit US as regards to securing substantial strategic benefits from the deal. New Delhi's public refusal of White House request to define the size of its 'minimal deterrent' nuclear force, suggests that India might exploit the deal's civilian assistance to free up its domestic nuclear assets for military production and US has to go slow in implementing the nuclear deal.
