The US military commander responded with a variety of improvisations due to the difficulties faced in Iraq after being denied both adequate troop strength and the authority to impose the rule of law in the initial days of occupation. The US military needs to grasp the basic truth that the path to winning the hearts and minds of the masses leads over the corpses of the violent minority.
