Article Abstract:

The ongoing analysis of upgrades to the US Air Force fleet of C-5 Galaxy transport aircraft could result in a recommendation to purchase more C- 17s. Army Gen. Henry Shelton, the Chmn of the Joint Chiefs, made the remark at a Senate hearing conducted on Apr 26, 2000. About 125 of the Galaxys, built in the late 1960s and in the mid-1980s, are in service with the USAF fleet. The fleet's mission capability rate is hovering at about 60%.
