The Thousand-Ship Navy

Article Abstract:

The US Navy is facing the problems of terrorists spreading infectious and potentially fatal virus, as well as weapons of mass destruction (WMD) posing threats across the world's oceans. 'Thousand-Ship Navy', is one of the strategic initiatives under development, which is aimed at combining efforts on an international scale to halt or divert the movement of threats on the high seas.

Destroyer power trip: Revolutionary engine system among 10 DD(X) technologies facing crucial tests

Article Abstract:

An integrated power system, which is being developed by DD(X), namely DD(X) Zumwalt-class destroyer, will face decisive tests during 2005 along with some of the other technologies. The United States (U.S.) Navy is planning to complete the tests and place the first DD(X) order in the spring of 2005 but the critics feel that the Navy is pushing the technology very fast.

Surface ship, submarine missions are coalescing

Article Abstract:

The Navy is expected to transformation decisions to meet combat shore requirements (strike) and current littoral challenges. Littoral requirements are being considered through the Littoral Combat Ship program and the Navy has also to support additional missions such as strike as requested by regional combatant commanders.
