U.S. Navy master plan for UUV development

Article Abstract:

The US Navy, which updated its master development plan for unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV) in December 2004 into a cohesive plan for development of four classes of UUV platforms, development of standards and implementation of modular concept. The new plan uses guidelines under 'Sea Power 21' concepts for overall guidance and establishes nine sub-pillar areas for development and prioritization of future UUV developments.

X-Craft and the future of 'LCS'

Article Abstract:

Office of Naval Research (ONR) catamaran-hull 'X-Craft' is one of the hull designs for small combatant craft under development for the US Navy of the future, which might be launched by 12 June 2004. Different Navy agencies and private contractors would use the X-Craft to test concepts, technologies, and hardware to be adapted in the future ship designs.

U.S. submarine force: Future in declining numbers

Article Abstract:

The US Navy re-commissioned the USS Ohio (SSGN-728) at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, first of a new generation of cruise missile submarines, on February 6, 2006. The future of the SSN portion of the fleet and the new submarine class are discussed.
