The leading edge of acquisition reform

Article Abstract:

The US Coast Guard has plans to replace and modernize its equipment, and its Integrated Deepwater System acquisition program is designed to replace the equipment and provide greater efficiency. The program encourages the purchase of common systems and technologies, to take advantage of best practices of private companies and cost efficiencies.

The maritime component: Coast Guard plays expanded role in U.S. sea power equation

Article Abstract:

The US Coast Guard is an invaluable sea power resource. It has jurisdiction in US and international waters, and is a primary enforcer of policies, including those to preserve marine resources, prevent drug trafficking and prevent transportation of illegal aliens. Other ways in which the Coast Guard aids sea power are described.

Deepwater: the integrated solution

Article Abstract:

The Coast Guard's deep-water mission is defined as maritime safety, law enforcement, environmental protection, and military defense functions outside of 50 miles of the coast. USCG systems development planning to meet this mission is analyzed.
