The lessons learned - times four: America's public shipyards deliver quality fleet support

Article Abstract:

The four US naval shipyards (NSYs) namely, Portsmouth in Kittery in Maine, Norfolk in Portsmouth in Virginia, Puget Sound in Bremerton in Washington and Pearl Harbor in Hawaii have played an important role in supporting national defense and fighting the war against terrorism by providing ship modernization, maintenance and repair capabilities. The U.S. NSYs are capable of being flexible, and concentrate on delivering quality ship maintenance at low cost and within time limitations.

SHIPMAIN - reengineering for a culture of readiness

SHIPMAIN, which is a new concept of one shipyard for the nation, gives the flexibility to support continuous maintenance aboard ship as it examines and eliminates the redundancies in the maintenance processes.
