Co-opting the charismatic malcontent

Article Abstract:

The Marine Corps needs every able-bodied Marine to carry his loads in the global war on terror (GWOT) and hence greater leadership is required to gain the cooperation of every Marine in the unit, to include the charismatic malcontents (CMs). The leaders can reorient the CMs' special skills to catalyze the unit growth and mission accomplishment by granting informal status to the CMs.

An organizational model for Marines fighting an insurgency

Article Abstract:

Some observations on ways of improving inter-agency cooperation and the overall effectiveness of the Marine Corps in dealing with an insurgency are discussed. It is believed that the path to victory lies in creating a structure that encourages independent thinking and creative solutions.
