The militant Kurds of Iran

Article Abstract:

The Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), founded by the members of the Workers' Party of Kurdistan as an Iranian equivalent to their leftist nationalist insurgency against the Turkish government, has demanded establishment of a confederation in Iran in which Kurdish areas would have broad autonomy and has stepped up its attacks in Iran following Iranian assault in May. The group has declared a strategy of co-operation with minority groups in Iran and has also sought the support of the US in its bid to win Kurdish autonomy.

Kidnappings endanger reconstruction in Iraq

Article Abstract:

Data compiled and analyzed by Olive Security from sources in Iraq indicates that the kidnapping of foreign civilians in Iraq is being carried out by a combination of insurgent and criminal gangs that have proved resilient in the face of counterinsurgency operations. The abduction and murder of foreign workers has forced some companies and aid organizations to withdraw from Iraq, damaging efforts to reconstruct Iraq's infrastructure and to rebuild its economy.
