The small and large of survey ship deliveries

Article Abstract:

The research vessel 'Leonardo' which is 28.6m long was built by McTay Marine for NATO's LA Spezia-based SACLANT Underwater Research Center (URC) and 'Echo', the 90m long survey vessel was built for the Royal Navy are the two designs which represent the smaller and longer ends of survey operations. The 'Leonardo' is used for inshore work extending for only 1-2 day stints, while the 'Echo' has a multi-role capability and 9000nm range but both have 360 degree azimuthing propulsors and their operational outfit is provided by one company, Vosper Thornycroft Shipbuilding with many of the components serving both the vessels.

Turkish Navy update: Reprint from Turkish defense & aerospace update

Article Abstract:

The Turkish Navy programmes including its Naval Air Arm and Coast Guard and the re-shuffle at the top of the Turkish Naval Forces (TNF) Command are illustrated. Meltem III contract was signed on July 20, 2005, the SSM has issued a Request for Proposal [RfP] for the New Type Patrol Boat Project of the TNF and the Commander TNF Admiral Ozden ORNEK retired on August 30 and was replaced by former Commander of the Fleet Admiral Yener KARAHANOGLU as Commander of the Navy.
