The waiting game: A stronger Taliban lies low, hoping the U.S. will leave Afghanistan

Article Abstract:

The US Special Forces (SF) officers believe that the Taliban forces are playing a waiting game in Afghanistan as the insurgents are lying low, avoiding high-profile attacks on the US and coalition forces. They believe that their aims is to convince US commanders and their political masters that the Taliban no longer poses a major threat to stability in Afghanistan and that it is time to withdraw US forces from the country.

Missing the mark: We're not training the whole team

Article Abstract:

The component of the transformation of U.S. national power that centers on training is one of the most difficult to appreciate and hardest to implement. A commitment to do this properly is neither in place with affected parties nor yet authorized by higher authority as a forcing function.
