Recapitalizing the Coast Guard for the 21st century

Article Abstract:

The US Coast Guard has launched an ambitious program to modernize its 'Deepwater' fleet of aircraft and cutters that conduct multimission operations 50 miles or more to sea. The Deepwater Project has an estimated cost of almost $10 billion over 20 years. Procurement programs on the table include enhancing the capabilities of the HC-130 long-range search aircraft.

The U.S. Navy's Sea Power 21 vision serves as a roadmap for the navy's future programs, plans and operations. The main aim of Sea Power 21 is to employ current capabilities in new ways, introduce innovative capabilities as quickly as possible and achieve unprecedented maritime power.
