U.K. EMKIT trials set for launch

Article Abstract:

The Electro Magnetic Kinetic Integrated Technology (EMKIT) unmanned aerial vehicle launch technical demonstrator project aspires to present EM launch technology through the testing of a high-speed high-acceleration demonstrator applying advanced linear inductor motor (ALIM) technology. The land-based trials would start in early 2007 following the completion of system commissioning activities at a test site to ensure electromagnetic launch technology is available for future defense needs.

RN surveys REMUS progress

Article Abstract:

A successful future mine countermeasures (MCM) concept enabled by multiple networked unmanned water vehicles (UUVs) enacted in a NITEworks experiment is planned as part of the Future MCM vision strategy paper. Although the REMUS 100 UUVs are tiny in size, they are helping the Royal Navy to know how it will help to contribute to missions, build repository of tactical knowledge and operator expertise.

The proposed consolidation of the U.K.'s naval industrial base appears closer in May 2007 as BAE Systems and VT Group prepare to announce a new joint venture company that will combine their respective shipbuilding and naval support businesses and Devonport Management Ltd. (DML) plans to restructure the submarine sector.
