UK fires first AIM-120C5 from Tornado F.3

Article Abstract:

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has declared that the first firing of the latest variant of the AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM), AIM-120C5 at the US Navy Air Warfare Center range in Point Mugu, California using Tornado F.3 from the Royal Air Force's Fast Jet Weapons Operation Evaluation Unit took place on 6 December 2005 and the second firing was completed on the following day. The acquisition of AIM-120C5 by the Royal Air Force is part of the Tornado F.3 Sustainment Programme (FSP), primed by BAE Systems, and is regarded a significant milestone.

UK MoD awards Tornado support contracts

Article Abstract:

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), on December 16, 2005, awarded an innovative contract worth some GBP 130 million (USD 230 million) to BAE Systems' Customer Solutions & Support (CS&S) division for combined maintenance and upgrade (CMU) work on the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) fleet of Tornado GR.4 aircraft. It is revealed that BAE Systems' CS&S would be responsible to the MoD Defence Logistics Organization (DLO) Tornado Integrated Project Team (IPT) for the delivery of CMU work at the Tornado GR.4's main operating base at RAF Marham.
