US & ballistic missile defence

Article Abstract:

The fate of the National Ballistic Missile Defense system, which is designed to protect the US from nuclear missile attacks, will be decided by Pres Clinton within the summer of 2000. If approved by the president, Congress will immediately move about $14 billion for research and development efforts leading to the deployment of up to 100 ground-based anti-ballistic missiles in Alaska begining in 2005 and several more at different parts of the country within 2010.

Governments around the world are after the best ballistic missiles and anti-missile defence systems in the market today. Further innovations of missile systems as well as future efforts to control them could cause dangerous complications. That is why the US and its allies need to have wider coordination regarding missile defence developments to keep global security.

The 2003 American defence agenda
