U.S. coast guard could accelerate fast-response cutter

Article Abstract:

The US Coast Guard is expected to review the recommendations from industry on renovating 49 110-foot Island-class patrol boats, workhorses of the fleet, or curtailing that effort by buying in early on a new class of fast-response cutters. The 110-foot modernization and life extension overhaul and the fast-response cutters are parts of the Coast GuardEs $17 billion Deepwater program to modernize and replace its ageing ships and aircraft, and improve command and control and logistics systems.
