USA ponders options after Pyongyang's nuclear admission

Article Abstract:

The United Nations Command (UNC) believe that North Korea' s admission for actively pursuing a nuclear weapons programme may force Washington to engage with Pyongyang to prevent destabilization and a regional arms race from developing. Under the 1994 Agreed Framework, Pyongyang agreed to freeze its nuclear program in exchange for the annual delivery of 500,000 tons of Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and the construction of two Light Water Reactors (LWR) by US-led Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO).

The progress made in the latest round of six-party talks aimed at resolving the stand-off on North KoreaEs nuclear weapons programme is presented. Washington pressed for its latest formula, Complete Verifiable and Irreversibile Dismantlement while North Korea insisted that any dismantlement of its nuclear programmes would take place in a phased manner.
