Article Abstract:

The compensation, relief and support for military retirees are still not enacted by the Congress due to the costs associated with it and strong opposition from defense and White House officials. The supplementary funding for the US military's commitments in Iraq and Afghanistan and the Navy's efforts to boost production of precision munitions, disabled veterans tax and the new maritime and port security programs are discussed.

Legislative update

Article Abstract:

The House of Representatives approved the legislation to provide tax relief and tax fairness to the men and women of the US military forces. The Armed Services Tax Fairness Act of 2003 would enable armed services members and their families to benefit from reform provisions such as exclusion of capital gain taxes on home sales and tax-free death gratuity payments to survivors of military personnelEs.

Defense bills stall; McCain rips special interest funding

Article Abstract:

The serious differences between the US House and the Senate staff members over special-interest projects, a part of the 2004 defense-spending plan, have delayed the 2004 defense and military constructions appropriations bill. This delay has led to a stake of millions of dollars in home-state projects in the two bills.
