What price professionalism?

Article Abstract:

US military personnel may get pay increases from the government to stop many highly-skilled soldiers, airmen and naval personnel from leaving the Armed Forces. The Joint Chiefs of Staff has requested Congress for additional financial outlay in the defense budget that would help in raising the quality of standard of living of US servicemen and their families. However, lawmakers should conduct an inquiry on whether a legislated wage increase will be effective in retaining professional Armed Forces personnel.

Decision time: C-17

Article Abstract:

The US Air Force is set to receive the last of its 120 C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft by 2004. It is interesting to note that supporters of the Globemasters, particularly the manufacturers and those in the US Army, are not pressing for future additional commitments for the procurement of the aircraft. This is attributed to the fact that future orders for the Globemasters has been linked to the success of other programs, specifically the Joint Strike Fighter and the F-22 programs.
