Down on the farm, up on technology; computers roll into the field as satellites peer from the sky

Article Abstract:

Farmers in the Midwest are increasingly using precision agriculture technology that brings together information about soil qualities, pest management and weather patterns in order to direct variable-rate applicators that can customize the delivery of fertilizer or pesticide to precise areas of a field. These new methods help farmers analyze how much they produce versus how much they spend, thereby letting them farm more land for the same cost.

A popular port for computers users; don't get comfortable with U.S.B. technology, there are new and faster port connections just around the corner

Article Abstract:

The Universal Serial Bus technology has great advantages over the old parallel and serial ports in computer peripherals, although users may still come across compatibility problems between U.S.B. PC chipsets and chipsets in printers and computer mouses. A hub lets users plug more than two U.S.B. devices nto their computers at the same time. Later this year, computers and peripherals will ship U.S.B. 2.0. Those who want the faster 2.0 version will need to buy a new computer or an adapter card. Another popular data transfer technology is FireWire, or I.E.E.E. 1394.
