Advocates urge action

Article Abstract:

There is an increasing clamor for new policies and legislation to prevent the occurence of physical abuse against women. An example of such legislation is the Violence Against Women bill by Democratic Sen Joseph R Bidell Jr. Communities in New Haven, CN, are presently experimenting on policies which would introduce stiffer penalties for would be batterers. Some experts argue that the only concrete solution to the problem isa re-evaluation of society's attitudes towards male-female relationships.

Debate over causes

Article Abstract:

Theories regarding the possible causes of phsysical abuse of women by men are presented. These different theories reflect a variety of socio-economic factors which are believed to be the main reason behind such incidents. Some researchers blame unemployment as the culprit, others feel thatprevious childhood traumas are the main reason behind these manifestations. Some however, feel that the present US culture promotes aggresive behavior towards women.
