Assisting refugees: do current aid policies add to the problems?

Article Abstract:

Controversy exists on whether refugee assistance policies help more than they exacerbate problems. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees reports 15 million refugees and another 20 million intranationally displaced persons in 1996. The refugee total has tripled since 1980, and the United Nations has grown more active as a result. American military assistance, media coverage, United Nations and nongovernmental organizations are all factors in refugee aid which are under criticism.

Civic renewal: do America's problems stem from a lack of morality?

Article Abstract:

Controversy exists on whether civic renewal in America could be achieved by an increase in morality. Public opinion polls show declining membership is social organizations and also lowering faith in government, while many hold to the 1950s as a social ideal. Critics accordingly favor renewal of families and communities with traditional, mainstream values. Walt Disney Co's planned community of Celebration, FL is one such attempt to integrate past values and design with modern technology.

Reform in Iran

Article Abstract:

Scholars believe that Iran may be on the verge of profound change, with the election of moderate president, Mohammad Khatami. Other experts, however, say that Khatami does not wish to reverse changes brought by the 1979 revolution. In an interview, he called for a new dialogue between the peoples or Iran and the US to break the "wall of mistrust."
