Automakers rev up rebates in 4th quarter

Article Abstract:

Automakers are introducing incentive deals for the 4th qtr 2000 despite a record sales pace in Sep 2000. GM has launched a round of rebates and cheap financing deals, including 0% interest rate loans for up to five years on various 2000 model-year cars, sport-utility vehicles and pickups. Ford Motor Co has also launched a round of incentives which includes a $1,000 rebate on the 2001 Explorer. The incentives are not related to the Firestone recall since buyers want them removed before buying the vehicle.

One-price car selling gains momentum

Article Abstract:

Automobile manufacturers are pressuring their dealers to conduct their sales at a one-price, no-haggle basis. Mercedes-Benz and Ford have announced that their dealers will become haggle-free while Saab, Land Rover and General Motors in the San Fernando Valley, CA, area said they will test the concept of one-price selling. One-price, no-haggle selling has been criticized by some analysts as either an attempt to increase prices or to fix prices.
