B.C. rapped over Kemess forestry infractions

The British Columbia Forest Practices Board has criticized the provincial government for failing to enforce forestry regulations. The controversy focuses on a power line corridor that was built by Kirkland, Wash.-based Royal Oak Mines Inc., which has been acquired by Toronto, Ont.-based Northgate Exploration Ltd.

The Canadian lumber industry, already struggling due to the U.S. economic slowdown, is reporting an even further decline since the September 11th terrorist attacks. Eleven of British Colombia's 35 mills have been closed and 5 are operating at half their normal capacity.
