Explorer sales may hit a few bumps

Article Abstract:

Sales of Ford Explorer SUV in May 2001 were down by 16.5% from May 2000, which several analysts attribute to several factors. The SUV market has grown from 37 models in 1997 to more than the 70 current models sold. Observers say Ford's compact Escape SUV may even be cutting into Explorer sales. Moreover, Bridgestone/Firestone has not relented from its criticism of the Explorer. The tiremaker has already asked federal regulators to investigate if the Explorer has an oversteer problem.
