Article Abstract:

Thirty-seven-year-old Simone Young is well-qualified to conduct Australia's national opera, Opera Australia. Young has been chosen to lead the opera starting in 2001. She entered the international opera culture in the 1980s at Germany's Cologne Opera. She surprised many with her comprehensive knowledge of the operas performed there. She later made impressive showings the Berlin State Opera and the Metropolitan Opera in New York, New York. She will have complete artistic control and believes that is the only way a conductor can work.

Experts have compared David Helfgott's concerts to freak shows and circuses, but his CD has gone gold and his concerts are sold out. The secret of his success lies with his dedication and passion for music. He brings excitement and emotions to his concerts, demonstrating his talents as a musician. Some contend that he has triumphed over his critics by just playing what he knows best.

Blissful perfection

Article Abstract:

Bryn Terfel, a bass-baritone from Wales, performed a varied program of songs, from works by Schubert and Schumann to Welsh folk tunes, at the Sydney Opera House. Also appearing was the Russian soprano Galina Gorchakova, who sang many Russian songs, but ended strongly with the aria from "Tosca."
