WestJet unveils flight plans for Eastern Canada

Calgary, Alb.-based Westjet Airlines Ltd. has announced new routes between Hamilton, Ontario and Winnipeg, Montreal and Halifax. Westjet, which is competing against Air Canada by offering discount fares on the new routes, is led by president Stephen Smith.

Canada 3000 staff rally for their jobs as airline shuts down

Article Abstract:

Approximately 1,000 staff of Canada 3000 Inc. held a rally at the Lester B. Pearson International Airport after the airline ceased operations. The company's employees urged negotiations, called on the government to assist, and asked management to locate new financing to keep the airline in business.

Air Canada, WestJet eye possible alliance

Air Canada, based in Montreal, Canada, is holding talks with discount carrier WestJet for a possible alliance to allow more flights being offered across Western Canada at cheaper rates. The two airlines are discussing 'a potential limited commercial agreement' that does not involve equity transfer or ownership. This deal is similar to those that Air Canada reached with other carriers around the world.
