Chronology

Article Abstract:

A chronicle of rising college education costs in the US beginning in the 1960s is presented. The Higher Education Act of 1965 made college education accessible to financially strapped students by providing loans to be rapid after graduation, work-study arrangements and outright grants. This resulted in a continuous rise in college enrollment for the next two decades. In 1992, the Bush administration and the Clinton administration made certain adjustments in student aid laws to increase the amount of aid available to college students.
