Coalition gripped by fear of premature evacuation

Article Abstract:

The 1996 election in Australia produced a dislike between John Howard and Paul Keating. The election also brought down the Labor party, and few predicted it could recover in one term. With the 1998 election nearing, Labor must win 26 seats to win the election. Some predict a Labor victory is possible. They point to similarities between Keating and Howard in that neither man listens or admits he is wrong.

Queensland message falls on deaf ears

Article Abstract:

The Australian Queensland election should have served as a reminder to John Howard's government, but the Coalition insists there are no major problems. John Howard has already stated he will hold an election in Aug 1998, and will pursue a double dissolution on Wik. The Coalition contends that while Queensland is home of the One Nation party, they are doing better in other places.

Angry PM scares away the voters

Article Abstract:

The double dissolution election in 1998 is called the Wik election, but it is unlikely to settle the issue for Australian voters. Prime Minister John Howard and his government are trailing the Opposition in the polls, and it will be difficult to use the Wik debate to revive the popularity of the coalition. Voters are tired of the conflict that Howard provokes.
