Contraceptive patch proves effective

Article Abstract:

An innovative skin contraceptive patch has been found to be just as effective as oral contraceptive pills, in preventing pregnancies. The patch, called EVRA, and made by Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, may be changed weekly, while pills have to be taken daily. Moreover, despite oral contraceptives' 99% effective rate, one in 20 US users get pregnant, due to missed pills and starting the next pack too late. On the other hand, user compliance is better with the EVRA patch, reducing the rate of unintended pregnancies.
