Crafty art

Article Abstract:

Six jewelry and small-metal artists have been selected to work at the Pyrmont Jewellery Studios in Sydney, Australia's first public craft and design workshop. Pyrmont will provide training materials and studio space for these artists, so they can set up their own small businesses once the course is completed. The program is funded by a $500,000 grant from the Department of Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs.

The substance of style

The exhibition 'In Search of Style' at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, Australia, explores style in Australian painting from the 1980s, covering over 150 paintings and works on paper, mainly from the Lotti and Victor Smorgon Collection of Australian art. The works include 'The Silence of Painters' by Lindy Lee, '1992' by Tommy Clark and 'Wings of the Sad Angel No 2' by John Young.

Art blurs at the edges

Article Abstract:

Jonathan Watkins, artistic director of Biennale of Sydney, has traveled around the world since 1997 and selected artists and artworks for the exhibition that opens on Sep 18, 1998. He has a project of $3 mil that was funded by NSW and federal governments, Sydney City Council, private sector, and foreign donations. The exhibition will feature works of more than 100 artists from 28 countries.
