Article Abstract:

The island nations in the Pacific Ocean near the International Date Line are competing for tourist dollars for the 2000 New Year's Celebrations. Kiribati unilaterally moved the Date Line to 150 degrees west in order to be the first nation to see the sun rise on Jan 1st, 2000. Tonga has hired Adnan Khashoggi's son to organize their New Year's Celebrations on an Olympic scale. New Zealand already has the infrastructure and the resources to benefit from the millennium tourist industry.

Malaysian reformation

Article Abstract:

The Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, since the beginning of the country's economic downturn has been accused of sodomy and placed under detention. However, Mahathir bin Mohamad, the prime minister, is counting on his economic track record to stay in power. Anti-Mahathir protests have been banned, but peaceful demonstration continue with riot police using batons and pepper-laced water cannon bursts to disperse demonstrators.
