Australian Prime Minister John Howard?s appointment of Helen Coonan as revenue minister was done at the suggestion of Peter Costello. Danna Vale was appointed veterans affairs minister and Brendan Nelson was appointed minister of education, training and science due to their efforts at buttering up the Prime Minister. Simon Crean of the Labor Party has also made appointments to his shadow cabinet.

Beazley shows his mettle

Article Abstract:

In Australia, the Labor Party's anti-government sales tax (GST) campaign is not attractive. Kim Beazley of the Labor party has told senior citizens it would add to the cost of funerals. Tough opposition to the tax will not win the election for Labor, by itself, but is vital if the Labor Party is to have any chance to undermine the John Howard/Liberal Party plan for the nation.
