Diff'rent strokes

Article Abstract:

Sir Donald Bradman called cricket "the Australian way," but the tradition of the game has been marked by racism, sexism, religious and class discrimination. In 1868, the first team to represent Australia internationally was completely Aboriginal. In the 1990s Aboriginals are seldom seen in the sport. Prime minister John Howard's view of diversity in Australia is mainstream and irrelevant to many younger people.

Let the dialogue begin

Article Abstract:

Laurie Brereton of the Labor Party has been openly critical of his party's stand on the question of asylum seekers. Critics of the government's policy have been dismissed as liberals concerned solely about political correctness, but there is a wide variety and growing number of critics, many of whom are clearly not liberals. Perhaps dialogue and empathy deserve a chance in place of ultimatums and arrogance.
