Trimark in talks with suitor

Toronto, Ont.-based Trimark Financial Corp. is negotiating with Boston, Mass.-based Putnam Investments Inc. over a possible merger. Trimark, which is the sixth-largest mutual fund company in Canada, would sell Putnam a controlling stake in the deal.

Dundee Bancorp tosses hat into rings, bids on Fortune Financial and fund company Infinity

Article Abstract:

Dundee Bancorp Inc of Toronto, Ontario, has announced its plan to acquire Fortune Financial Management Inc and affiliated mutual fund company Infinity Investment Counsel Ltd. Dundee has been looking for investment companies to merge with its own investment dealer Dundee Securities Inc and Dundee Mutual Funds, which sells the Dynamic and Powerbrand mutual funds. The fledgling Infinity has almost C$1 billion in managed assets.

Strategic value and O'Donnell Investment join forces to combat industry's giants

Article Abstract:

Strategic Value Corp is acquiring Toronto-based O'Donnell Investment Management Inc in a C$77.8-mil deal that would form a stronger mutual fund firm to combat industry giants. The combined firm, to be named SVC O'Donnell Corp, will the 26th largest mutual fund firm in Canada, with $3.3 bil in assets. The deal, which is expected to close on May 31, 1999, will be financed by Strategic Value through a bank loan.
