'E' in eBay might stand for expansion

Article Abstract:

Online auction site eBay has embarked on a very ambitious plan to earn $3 billion in revenues by 2005. The revenue growth would come mostly from business-to-business transactions, which generate higher commissions. During 2000, revenues doubled to $431.4 million, which is expected to continue to rise at an annual growth rate of 50% during the next four years. The company accounts for 85% of the online auction market, very much ahead of Yahoo! and Amazon.

Pet e-tailers go to dogs as Pets.com rolls over

Article Abstract:

Leading online pet retailer, Pets.com, announced on Nov 7, 2000 that it will have to shutter retail operations, lay off 255 of its 320 employees and sell its assets, including rights to its Sock Puppet icon after its efforts to find an investor or buyer failed and a possible merger with rival Petopia.com was not realized.
