EX-ENRON FIGURE REPORTEDLY NEAR A PLEA OF GUILTY

Article Abstract:

Andrew S. Fastow, the former CFO of Enron Corp., is considering a plea bargain for his fraud case that would include providing evidence against Richard A. Causey, the former chief accounting officer. The negotiations also include resolving the charges against his wife Lea. Andrew Fastow is accused of using partnerships to enrich himself and hide Enron's debts and liabilities. Both Fastows do not want to serve prison sentences at the same time because they have two young children.

Couple Set To Plead Guilty In Enron Case

Andrew and Lea Fastow have decided to enter guilty pleas in Federal District Court, Houston, in separate proceedings. The former Enron CFO is charged with fraud, money laundering and conpiracy. His wife has agreed to plead guilty to charges of tax violations and conspiracy. Andrew Fastow's plea bargain clears the way for prosecutors to gather evidence against other Enron officials who maintain their innocence.
