Ethernet finds a new level; souped-up versions of familiar networking format promise swift improvements in communications

Article Abstract:

An Agilent Technologies Inc. engineering team has designed a palm-sized transceiver which can transport data at ten gigabits per second. This advance in Ethernet technology, designed with mirrors, lasers and high-speed semiconductor components, promises a revolution in the telecommunications industry. The lost-cost devices used in Agilent's transceiver and its adaptation to the existing Ethernet technologies make it a viable and relatively inexpensive innovation.

Business computer secrecy vulnerable to a new flaw

Article Abstract:

A University of Maryland team headed by William A. Arbaugh has shown that access control systems that supposedly protect wireless networks are very vulnerable in a report titled, "Your 802.11 Wireless Network Has No Clothes". Any outsider who has close proximity to a network can enter your system easily. The 802.11 wireless standard could expose corporate data to any outsider.
