Article Abstract:

Singapore remains a financial giant as the Asian financial turmoil goes on. However, Australia has seen the effects of this crisis in its tourism industry and mining. Japanese semiconductor manufacturers have put their future plans on hold and Korean manufacturers have cut capital spending by 35%. In 1998, Asian products such as computer parts will be cheaper and other competing businesses will also lower their prices.

Howard's plan B keeps the heat on Telstra

Article Abstract:

John Howard's newly elected government will open up Telstra to competition and this is expected to lower calling costs considerably. The Coalition Party's plans of privatizing Telstra have been checked but the party proposes to limit the company's monopoly by separating it from the Universal Service Obligation. The Australian Computer Society has commended all the parties fro addressing IT issues during the elections.

The new see-through plastic Mac

Article Abstract:

Apple Computer Inc. will introduce in Aug 1998 a computer whose monitor, disk drives and microprocessor are one unit. The new computer, named the iMac, will contain a 233 megahertz microprocessor, 32 megabytes of memory, a 15-inch monitor, modem and CD-ROM drive. It will retail for $2500. It will be the most notable example of Apple's "Think Different" advertising campaign.
