Tilting at insurance

Article Abstract:

Financial writer Andrew Tobias, author of several books on the insurance industry, as well as investment guides and articles, has always kept abreast of developments in insurance coverage. In the process, he has been a key figure in insurance reform, such as his role in trying to institute auto coverage reform through Proposition 200 in California. His latest book 'My Vast Fortune' recounts his efforts to bring reform to the state, which have incurred the ire of consumer-rights advocates.

Vertical reality: if not for elevators, we could have 500-story buildings

Article Abstract:

Futuristic designs of vertical mega-buildings are stymied because of human inability to tolerate rapid changes in pressure. Even pressurized sky lobbies placed here and there would not be feasible. Otis Elevator Co has one design for an elevator with seated passengers that goes horizontal too.
