GM to offer hybrid power across models

Article Abstract:

General Motors announced that it will offer hybrid gas-electric engines on new sedans, hatchbacks and sports wagons by 2004. The hybrid engines called ParadiGM would either be a six-cylinder or an in-line four-cylinder engine with a pair of electric motors and battery pack. The ParadiGM could be offered as an option on 2004 vehicles such as the Chevrolet Malibu, Saturn S series and the Pontiac Vibe. General Motors will also unveil a hybrid system at the North American International Auto Show called the Epsilon.

NHTSA explores safety of air bags in older Altimas

Article Abstract:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating the safety of air bags found in older Altimas over reports that they can cause eye injuries when inflated in a crash. The NHTSA is looking into reports that as many as 29 people have suffered eye injuries, ranging from temporary loss of vision to permanent blindness, due to air bags found in 1994 and 1995 Altima models. The automaker has settled lawsuits related to the cases but insists that its air bags are safe.

Ford builds on old classics

Article Abstract:

Ford Motor will unveil a Thunderbird production model and a concept car called the Forty-Nine at the 2000 North American International Auto Show. The Thunderbird would be sold as a convertible with a V-8 engine but has an optional removable top. Ford expects to sell as many as 25,000 Thunderbirds. On the other hand, the Forty-Nine borrows lines from the 1954 Skyliner and the 1955 Crown Victoria, but Ford is still remains unclear if the Ford would make the Forty-Nine a production model.
